Asian Paints Where The Heart Is explores Dinesh and Dipika Karthik’s whims and fancies, which are manifested in the way they’ve self-styled their spacious and alluring home.
When not on a field or a court, Dinesh and Dipika feel most content in their beautiful and spacious home. Located right next to the legendary ‘Thalaiva’ Rajnikanth’s residence, here’s a space that is welcoming, warm and very practical.
Having affectionately christened it as ‘The Karthik’s’, the couple describes this as the home that welcomed them to the city of Chennai. They share their roof with their year-old pooch, who happens to be just as much a sport as his foster parents. Dinesh testifies that a home grows with you, taking on characteristics of those who shape it, much like a child.
Dinesh spends most of his time in his meticulously laid out living room, either lounging away or keeping himself amused with television. The well-lit living room offers ample natural light in the day and is illuminated at night with the combination of lamps and embedded ceiling lamps. Dinesh tells us how he loves lounging away on his favourite couch. As for Dipika, the snug bedroom is the place to be. It’s here that she spends her free time on her gaming console.
‘The Karthik’s’ welcomes you with a large and vividly-hued painting that rests just above the main seating area. It creates the first impression of the couple’s penchant for creativity and home design style. Dipika prides herself with her trophy cabinet and shares an interesting story on how Dinesh cheered her on during her Commonwealth Games success. The couple take us into the most fascinating corner of their home design style, which happens to be their cabinet. This is where Dinesh stashes away his collection of bats and cricketing gear representing the various teams he plays for. Dipika shows us her travel and squash kit as well as her elaborate collection of shoes.
The couple’s dynamism in the way they’ve furnished their home is akin to their versatility in their respective arenas. Dipika tells us about how she remodelled her dining table to salvage it from the damage it suffered in transit. The result? An enchanting dining area with a granite top that reflects the specially-fitted lights above.
The Karthiks treat their home as a work in progress, which still lives up to being their perfect place to be. They chime in together in agreement that this home is truly where the heart is.
