1. 3-4 Wooden Planks – 8 inch x 24 inch
2. 4 Cotton Ropes: 1 inch thick, 7 feet long.
3. Paint: 1 litre of Asian Paints Milky Way L102 in Apcolite Premium Satin Enamel
4. Drilling Machine
Before you reach for the paint, it is essential to prepare a smooth base for it. Start by priming the planks with wood primer in order to achieve a smooth, even finish of paint. Primer is also essential since wood is extremely porous and absorbs the solvent from the paint, drying it prematurely. Once the primer has set and dried, apply a generous and even coat of paint. We recommend Asian Paints Milky Way L102 in Apcolite Premium Satin Enamel.
Now it’s time to get drilling! Pencil in where the holes need to be – 1 inch away from the four corners of the plank. Bring out the drilling machine and make holes just wide enough for the ropes to pass through.
Pass the ropes through the holes. To hold the shelves in place, knot the rope along the way, right below the corresponding hole on each plank. Ensure that that the shelves are well-spaced – not too close and not too near. We knotted the shelves 1 foot apart to allow just the right amount of vertical space for storage.
Now that you have the perfect nautical shelf, it’s time to put it to good use! Get two hooks in the wall and hang the shelves up. Voila! You’ve just given your bathroom storage the perfect nautical makeover!
